In 2002, I started my PhD in development economics before moving to environmental and natural re- source economics and thus to exploring market and government failures using institutional and exper- imental methods. After graduating in 2008, I spent time discussing the political-economy of water with experts and the public via popular media, talks and publications. I’ve consulted with private, non-profit and government clients. Since 2014, I have taught at Leiden University College, a liberal arts school that uses small-group, problem-based learning to understand and address global challenges. In recent years, I have pivoted from water to (non)adaptation to climate change, managing the commons, and communicating political-economic insights to a broader audience.
